I'll go first:  Snuggies.  My friends think that they are hilarious and DH and I now own 4 of them, 2 being leopard print with "his" and "hers" monogrammed on them.

Okay your turn!

hand knit place mats made out of yarn -  in my wedding colors.  I have no idea when I'd ever use them.  (I also had no idea what they were when I opened them, thankfully my mom saved me by saying oh they're beautiful!  what great place mats!) haha

A Christmas Snow Globe - and it was August when we had that shower...

So far an apple slicer/corer has been the most random thing we've gotten, but I like to *think* I will use this.  However we have a shower Saturday so I'm not holding my breath...

an 8 hour thermos. you fill it with coffee (or whatever) and push the pump on the top to dispense your drink that will be kept hot/cold for 8 hours

that was NOT on the registry! haha. along with it we got a very bright, kind of akward vase.....looks like an over-sized urn  yikes!

A knife set with cutting board that we didn't register for.  When we opened the box at the apartment turned out the wood cutting board was moldy.

Two beach towels with my name embroidered on one, his name embroidered on the other. Sigh.

oh and this high tech wine opener from  Brookstone.  It's actually really nice, but we hardly drink wine. Lame.

Gifts that are bought off the registry aren't fun (most of the time). My dad's family bought gifts when they got into town and I guess decided not to pay attention to our registry or our reguest for money (my dad gave specific instructions). I got some really wackadoodle gifts. But my favorite most random gift is the brass flower-like candlebra thingie my aunt gave me. I think it's a trip, because at first I thought it'd be a great weapon. Now I'm going to be sure that it's on full display!

katherine - total understanding from me about the registry thing!!  we even put where we were registered in the invites....obviously those were ignored Wink

Pinky - random but i had a dream after opening our gifts that i got a salad spinner ( didnt actually get one, but must have seen a commercial!) but in my dream i was standing in my kitchen spinning salad for like an hour with the most disgruntled look on my face!! hillarious!

We got a gun safe from a friend randomly in the mail when he found our we got engaged, so I guess technically it was an engagement present.  Random yes, but is actually something that we can use.  I guess we shall see what else gets thrown our way.

Oh wait, I have another one... I got this really funky skillet, with all these "speed bumps" in it, some weird brand name I'd never heard of, from a friend who got married 2 years ago. It was CLEARLY a regift. Kinda made me mad. Yell

I hear you on Anti-Registry gifts!  My MOH made a comment the other day to the effect of, "well some people may buy you stuff outside of the registry" and in an effort to not hurt her feelings (since she is already guilty of this exact thing) I kept my mouth shut but wanted to scream IT'S TACKY TO IGNORE THE REGISTRY!!

It REALLY is. I mean, we spend a LOT of time creating the registry, and for what, if everyone was going to ignore it! Doing a registry signals to people that there are things you NEED and are ASKING FOR. What irks me is, people are spending money on these non-registry gifts and COULD have put that same amount towards something I did need on the registry. Someone I know gave us a $60 food steamer that could fit enough food inside to feed a small African country. I had registered for a very small one. There was NO gift receipt. Walmart wont take it, because it doesnt sell that model. There are 12 of them for sale on ebay, and I saw no one bidding. So im stuck with it. She could have taken that $60 and bought something off the registry that I NEEDED, so I feel like that money was totally wasted. Argh!

As everyone can tell, this is a very sore subject for me. LOL.

But I guess non-registry gifts are better than none at all, in some people's minds, as we had a huge percentage of people who came to our wedding and didnt give us a gift. I cant even begin to explain how tacky I find that to be.

I know exactly what you mean Katherine!  I don't want to seem ungrateful, because we truly are blessed when people buy us something, regardless of where its from, but why people need to get "creative" and buy stuff they think we should want just baffles me.

And Pinky, we totally have a salad spinner on our registry.  FI was like, wtf! when I added it LOL.

I really like my salad spinner!  I even have the smaller size for herbs.  It beats using a whole roll of paper towels to dry those things!

I didn't mind getting things off our registry. I didn't even want to do a registry, so a lot of the stuff on mine was things I could update in our house but that I didn't need. I did get a few things that made me scratch my head, but they were gifts; I was grateful for that.

I got some cookbooks written by some random dude in th 1990's, with notes written to us in the front about how if we find someone to cook for us, it's much easier to cook. LOL! They came with a bookstand that has two crows painted on it that says "I gave my love a cherry." What. The. F!?!?!? It was from my most random and kooky friend, so I loved it. Even if I didn't understand it. :)
Our wedding day rocked. Bio

"They came with a bookstand that has two crows painted on it that says "I gave my love a cherry." What. The. F!?!?!? It was from my most random and kooky friend, so I loved it. Even if I didn't understand it. :)"

It's from a really old English folk song, sometimes called "the riddle song":

I gave my love a cherry, that had no stone
I gave my love a chicken, that had no bone
I gave my love a ring, that had no end
I gave my love a baby, with no cryin'

How can there be a cherry, that has no stone
How can there be a chicken, that has no bone
How can there be a ring, that has no end
How can there be a baby, with no cryin'

A cherry when it's bloomin', it has no stone
A chicken when it's hatchin', it has no bone
A ring when it's rollin', it has no end
A baby when it's sleepin, there's no cryin'

So kinda cute actually.

We just registered this weekend, so no gifts yet.  But I'm looking forward to seeing the crazy stuff my family is going to come up with.  I'm pretty sure "handmade" will be a recurring theme  ::rolls eyes::

942 towels.  That may be a small exaggeration, but after keeping more sets than we can ever hope to use, we still returned around $450 worth to Belk.  There is nothing home related that we want in that store, so DH got 3 pairs of dress shoes, we both stocked up on socks and I got a new Kate Spade purse and wallet. :)
(We had over $1000 there after including the gift cards we were given.  I hate Belk's so much but at least Crabtree does have some nicer things).
